I’ve always loved chick lit genre, think Marian Keyes, Louise Bagshawe, Candace Bushnell, Cathy Kelly, Sophie Kinsella, Jill Mansell, to name but a few, I could go on and on. For me, as someone who is an overthinker by nature, I find these books a light, funny, engaging, escapism. There is enough very real concerns happening globally, and anything that allows me to switch off and become engrossed in a world of fictional characters, is a welcome distraction.

My Diaries of an Unemployed Diva Series, commenced a good 20 years ago. I was literally in between jobs at the time for 4 weeks, and found I had all these ideas about a loveable quirky character, that lived out West and aspired to move East, as per all the A-listers she was aspiring to be like. I started writing the first book in diary entry style and format. It’s only around 10,000 words, so most will read it in one sitting. It is very engaging and people become very engrossed in the characters, I might add. What surprised me, was feedback from male readers who also liked the book.
Last year, while flying interstate with my partner, and being a nervous flyer at the best of times, I started throwing around ideas and storylines for the sequel. This time Leticia is 40 years old and facing a whole new range of trials, challenges and life situations. The whole 90 minute flight time was spent writing the entire outline for the book. This 2nd book is a novella style, and almost triple the word count of the first book, and this time in a story format.
More recently, I felt called to pen a third book in the series, primarily given my desire to keep Leticia living and breathing, so to speak. This most recent book, cocktails and commitment, also a novella, sees Leticia relocate to a new city, navigate the journey of entrepreneurship and employment in between work. There is twists and turns in Leticia’s love life as love blossoms, fades, reignites and is challenged along the way.
I’m unsure at this stage as to how many more books I will add to the range, but at this stage I am loving bringing Leticia’s world to my readers. All books are available exclusively through Amazon, in kindle/ebook and paperback versions. If you decide to check out the Diaries of an Unemployed Series, leave me a comment and I’d be grateful for a review. Happy reading!
