So I am curious, are you someone that is motivated by moving towards what you want or away from what you don’t want?
An example of this, if you wanted to say tone up or lose weight and specifically not eat the “wrong” sort of foods, would a picture of someone with the body you were aspiring to work towards motivate you, or a picture of something that you didn’t want or was fearful motivate you?
Years ago, I used to watch “Baywatch” as a teenager, in the days of the Hoff and Pamela Anderson and think how fit, toned and fabulous Pamela looked. I remember reading she would exercise before filming and had shared the sorts of foods she would eat eg. lean meats and salads.
At one point, I had taped a picture of her to the fridge door so I wouldn’t eat chocolate, donuts, chips etc but instead opt for something healthier. It didn’t last long, but for a while that motivated me. I would see her picture in the red lifeguard swimsuit and I would eat better.
I remember asking a friend at the time and they had said, no it would be the opposite, as in actually having a picture of what they didn’t want to look like on the fridge so as to remind that they could end up like that so it motivated them not to eat the processed foods.
This is one example and in one context, but what generally works for you?
